Default Thinking about XKR

I am brand spanking new and was directed to this aria to post a " Hey guy's whats up"??

I am in southern Oregon and classics and collector cars are very prevalent.
Since the first time I saw an XKR at MOTO GP, while at Luguna SECA in 2007. It came roaring into the parking lot,(no mufflers) and I was in love.... I looked at it and drooled. The owner offered me a towel to clean it up. OK I wasn't that bad but close, I have been scanning for one I could afford ever since.
I think I have found it , although it does have some issues that need sorting out. There was also a link on the same car over in the modern x100 sub forum.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-deal-173867/

I have a deposit with the lot of $3500 since I am in southern Oregon, and they are up in Portland. I will not be able to check it out until this weekend.
I Know that Kirk went and looked it over, and found many a problem, looking at what he said in the link he just might be overly picky. But I am sure that most items he listed can be fixed with one or two parts. When it comes to electricity, there are that many issues with the seats, adjustment buttons not working, the heat is not working. I am sure its only one thing causing the problems now to figure it out.
While talking to the dealership I believe they are putting it into the shop as the lady I have been working with, said it would be best to let he tech have a once over. I guess Kirk let them know what he saw.
Wish me luck

If you already know that another Jag Lover turned this car down because of too many problems, you should consider yourself forewarned. I can tell you from my own experience that you can chase electrical demons until, well, forever and still have no idea what's wrong and it will never work correctly. However, the heart frequently overrules logic.

That section of these forums is the best place to get help if/when you discover you're in over your head. I hope it all works out for you.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks! I did fail to tell you guys that I am a fairly good mechanic, along with my dad who is electrical engineer, also that I know the best auto electrician in southern Oregon. I just hope it does not cost a ton of money for parts.

Welcome to the forum BlooDSMeaR,

(I've merged you two separate Intro threads together)

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link US Western - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

An update, I went up to Portland to check out the car. It was a waste of time. It obviously had very old tires, was leaking coolant, had a very obvious miss. And thunked badly from the front and rear suspension. If they would have taken $4k for it,I would have jumped on it if it needed way too much work.

So you left a $3500 deposit? That's a lot!

Glad you skipped it. There's no fun in a headache no matter how cheaply it comes.

i have had my 2005 XKR for about a month now. bought it after seeing ON paper, 7 pages of meticulous maintenance done at Jag or Land Rover dealerships...
with these cars, maintenance can be expensive, even if you know your stuff. since most are at around 12+ years of age, a good Carfax was the selling point for me.
good luck, they are getting more scarce, but wait for a good one with lots of records!

I didn't loose any money on looking, but I had them hold $3500, on my card. It was 100% refunded.

I have been very frustrated with trying to look at the cars, most of them that are listed for sale are 500+ miles away.

i know the feeling. there was a gorgeous Seafrost (my fave color) in Florida that i loved...but could not make a trip to check it out. it remains unsold,,,so i bet there are issues with it, even though it was described as amazing...

i think there are some forum members on here that would be willing to help you though...

be patient, you will find the XKR for you when its meant to be. i did!
