Welcome to the Forums.

The members in the XJ8 (X308) Tech Section will have answers,a s this is a well discussed issue.

Transmission fluid changing at approx 50K miles (80K kms) is crucial to thiis trans staying alive.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums John,

The P1000 indicates OnBoard Monitoring Tests have not been completed since the last code clear so there must be some additional detail to your issue .......

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/ to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Mid Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-mid-atlantic-65/ to find other members in your region.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

John,

I didn't mean anything more by "additional detail" than code P1000 indicates the codes have been recently cleared so you have presumably already done some troubleshooting.

The problem you describe is a transmission in "limp home" mode where it stays in 4th gear and engine power is also limited by the ECM. Members in X308 forum will be able to help with possible causes.
