Default Hello from the USA

I recently bought my first Jaguar, it’s 1994 XJ12. I love the car and enjoy driving it. But sadly we aren’t off to a good start.
After driving it for about two days, the transmission fault light appeared on the dashboard. The car seams to shift out of gear randomly depending on the speed.
If you stop and shut the car down, the light of go out after firing it back up. You can drive for a short distance, and it will shift just fine. But the light is sure to come back on, alone with the sporadic shifts.
Any ideas?

Hello,
The first thing that springs to mind is the oil level.
John.
