Default Wanted an XJS, but ended up with an S2 XJ6 instead.

Hi all
Bought my first Jag during the week. Picking it up next week. I'm the 3rd owner of this 4.2L Burgundy beauty. Hoping to replace the seat covers soonish but otherwise it runs well. It has twin SUs rather than the original CDs (I understand those are standard and problematic). Looking forward to giving it some TLC but there's not to much to do because it has been well looked after by the previous owners.

Thanks for the welcome Graham. I have found the XJ6 forum and saved it in my favorites. I'm in the ACT / NSW region and hope to catch up with like-minded individuals whenever possible.

You haven't put an entry under 'Location' so I took a guess at Queensland from your IP Address.

Here's the link to ACT/NSW Region:

Welcome.

Graham has done well, as usual.

The SU's are SIMPLE compared to the CD's.

NICE looking Series 2. The XJ-S will sit nicely in the shed with that.

Ahh to have such problems! was looking for an XJS but ended up with a nice S2 :-)

Been looking around for an XJS with dead engine for a while. Seems there are too many people that look after them.

Welcome , hope you enjoy the forum

Pickup has been delayed. Rego transfer issues within the family that own it, crappy weather and that it is an old Jag mean I've had to cool my heels a bit. Should have it here soon.

I have picked her up now and am very pleased. The starter motor failed on the day of pickup wouldn't you know it so the owners replaced it and I drove it home a couple of days later. Once warmed up it runs very well, lots of pull from the big 6! It won't set the world alight performance-wise but that's ok as I have a fuel injected turbo charged 13B series 2 RX-7 for that. But it does provide beautiful stately motoring which is what I expected. And it handles quite well as long as there is time to set up for a corner! I knew I would love owning a Jag.

Pleased to hear the delays and setbacks are over.

If it's especially skittish on corners, check the four metalastik Vee Mountings (item 6) connecting the Crossbeam (item 1) to the body.

If these have separated, the rear suspension can float around.

Thanks Graham, but no, it handles well. It's just that spearing into a corner and then banging it onto its side, to use some bike parlance, is not its forte.
I have a rego inspection next week. It's only some minor, typically British, oil leaks that will bring it undone. Wish me luck!

Success! Passed the rego inspection with the only recommendation being to replace the front lower control arm bushes. Very happy with that. Will drive it until the registration runs out and then will put it on historic I think.

Good news!

I've had a few early XJ's and used to work for an Indy servicing and repairing them. Never did come across a fully oil tight example.
