Wife wants a Jag

My wife wants a Jag. She likes the sleek look of the cars. I has to be a 4 dr.
I have looked around and I think she wants something similar to the 98 SJ8 model (do I have the model right?).
What are the "best" (least trouble prone) years/models? What should I expect to pay, initially and potential problems?
My other sleds are a 93' 525i, 78' 300D, and a restored 64 1/2 Mustang convertible.
Any info greatly appreciated.

Don't buy anything with an 8 cylinder engine that is older than a 2000.
Look into the 6 cylinder Xj6s, you might like the 95-97. The XJ40 (90-94 XJ6)and the X300 (95-97 xj6) are known for being very reliable, and you can get them for under 10,000 dollars easy.
Stuff to check is the air conditioning, and maybe the brake disks, and definatly look for rust, especially on the Xj40s. Those are the problems we have had with my 93, but they are all easily fixed.
You say ur wife wants one, but you know you want one, lol...
You'll like a xj more than ur 5 series, cuz it's gunna be way roomier.
You could also look into a newr s type or x type, those are great cars...as most the guys on this forum will tell you.

I would steer away from the X, as it's had it's fair share of problems, specially if you are looking to spend less than 10-12K! The newer X's are good, but also come with a slightly higher price tag!
If you would like an XJ40 ,just buy late ones as they seem more reliable .('93-94) .Other than that any X300 ('95-97) are superb cars .You don't wanna get XJR because it is just too fast for a woman lol

I garantee you whatever jag he buys, he gunna fight over it after he been in it.
The only reason my dad bought an xk8 was cuz he was jealous as hell that I was driving the jag, and he was just driving a mustang, even tho the mustang was worth 3 times my car.

I'd suggest a 92-94 XJ6 or X300 You can get a very nice clean older Jag for reasonable dollars, Jags just tend to age gracefully and ease into classic status. An older (92 & up) will not dig too dep into your pockets, and will give you an idea of how well a cat will fit in your family and expectations. Jaguars have their own unique attributes and are not for everyone. You kinda have to be born a Jag person...
hah get one man, cars so cheap right now, everyone can affordone! Even better when gas is $1.80 here in St. Louis for Premium 93!I'm getting my 08 XJ8 next year, gonna sell the 98 soon and keep the 04. I'm half british (last names even Hastings), is in my blood yo!!
