Wife's New Jag
Bought the wife a 2004 XK8 Convertible with 77k miles on it at the Mecum Auction in Denver this summer for $11,000. Beautiful car and she loves it. Unfortunately we are having a recurring transmission fault which seems to be getting worse. Took it to a local trans shop and they recommended rebuild or replace. Error resets after pulling over, turning off, and restarting the car.
Last week she moved it out of he garage and parked it in the driveway. After a few hours, she went and moved it back into the garage. Now it won't start. Have charged the battery to make sure it is hot. Its a 2015 battery. Cranks fine. Smells like its flooded. It sounds like it is not firing. Will almost start, enough to disengage the starter motor, and then dies.
Looking for some help as I already am looking at $2k - $5k for a tranny replacement

Welcome to the forum Wife's Jag Mechanic,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
That sounds like a case of bore wash. Not running the engine for sufficient time to warm up leaves it running rich. The excess fuel washes the oil film off the bores and the cylinders lose compression. Sometimes you can be lucky and start it with the throttle pedal pressed fully to the floor (which temporarily disables the fuel pumps) but usually the solution is plugs out and dried then inject a small volume of oil into each bore. Spin the engine very briefly to coat the bores and replace the plugs.
