Default Worried!

Hello,
I am a brand new Jaguar Xtype owner. So today for the first day owning I put gas in, I put a half tank regular instead of premium. The car is now performing real bad (herking & jerking) I have to keep shifting to deal with that (5 speed). Right away I put some premium gas and was told and put octane booster in to try to counter the jerking, sputtering. I am scared that I have irreversibly damaged the car.
Say it ain't so 😢, HELP!!

Welcome to the forum.

Well at least it wasnt diesel. I an not an X type expert , but just generally speaking half a tank of low grade fuel shouldnt be a big deal. Just drive conservatively , run the fuel level down and top up with premium.

If you interested in background, my comment was based partly on doing the same thing on many cars and not experiencing an issue, but mainly on early days of getting a little BMW into shape. On our base fuel (91RON) it ran OK but had no power and struggled to get up a hill with the AC on. With (98RON) it felt like a different car, and buzzed around quite happily.

Welcome to the forum.

Please dont PANIC, it solves nothing.

Go and buy a large bottle of JD, stop off for a pizza, and sit under that shady tree and enjoy life, and admire the Jag. Calm down somewhat.

As said all will be fine. Just drive it QUIETLY and keep topping it off with the Hi Octane stuff whenever possible.

The "snake oils" may or may not do much, and some of them are not really suitable for cars with these newer emission systems, such as O2 sensors, cat convertors, so please limit their use in MY opinion.

Welcome to the forum jaguarnewbie,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

It's a nuisance and not a crisis. I know you have a lot more issues with fuel quality in the USA than we do in Europe but the calming words and advice of previous replies should have made you a lot happier.

Follow this link X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link USA Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Default Welcome to Jaguar Forums

Welcome jaguarnewbie . . . and greetings from a fellow enthusiast in Australia. Good advice not to panic. Topping up often as possible with Premium has 2 HUGE advantages . . .
  • will soon lift your fuel supply in tank to correct grade;
  • provides you with SUPERB excuse to take car for long leisurely tour to burn through poor fuel.
Any event that motivates you to get out on the road in your shiny new (to you) Jaguar is a time to celebrate!
Best wishes,
Ken
