Wyoman
I've been a Jaguar lover since I saw my first Jag at age12, a yellow 1948 XK120, in 1950; I've owned an 1964 opalescent dark green XKE coupe picked up at the factory in Coventry; a mustard yellow 1976 XJ6, a maroon 2004 S AWD sedan, and at present a white 1997 XK8 convertible with 70K miles. My family suggests an in-depth psychiatric evaluation but so far I've avoided one. I live in Wyoming, a state which sensibly has no Jaguar dealers; the closest ones to my house are 350 miles away in Denver or Salt Lake City. Ive been fortunate finding mechanics to work on the cars; one was a Jamaican from Montego Bay, where he had been a certifiedd Jaguar mechanic for five years before moving to the US; another who liked working on Jags and recently completed installing a new timing chain and four tensioners, along with gaskets and other parts as I hoped to do a bit of preventative maintenance..
Unfortunately, while I'd left the car with him throughout the winter, I had two health issues arise ( I'm 83) that likely will preclude my driving for most of the time "I have left". And now, that the car is purring like the cat it's supposed to be!
I'm wanting to know the best avenues to advertise it to sell, realizing that I'm not expecting to retrieve most of the money I've put into it. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Some I'm aware of ---- this forum, Hemings, ebay, Craig's List ---but there must be others that are also good resources.

Welcome to the forums Wyoman,
Sorry to hear about the health issues and the consequences for your driving.
The biggest factor is used Jaguar values is history. Knowledgeable buyers considering an early XK8 will want documentation and be concerned about three areas:
1. plastic trensioners have been replaced with later metal type
2. transmission fluid and filter changes (not in the schedules but highly recommended to extend unit life)
3. cooling system maintained (water pump and hose replacement)
A fat file of receipts for parts and maintenance/repair work completed always helps ease a sale and reach an asking price. I'll leave it to our US members to suggest suitable places to list it.

The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. Thanks for your suggestions; There actually is a CarFax for the first 66K, and receipts for everything since then. I even have photos of the broken tensioners, which we saved in a box in my garage! Front engine cover gasket, oil pan gasket, power steering pump core, upper radiator hose were all fixed in April. The water pump had been replaced earlier according to the CarFax report.

Hello,
I'm sorry you must part with your beloved XK8.
When listing it, you might want to check sales outlets in other more populace states. I grew up in Montana where owning a Jag is grounds for instant commitment to Warm Springs (state mental facility). I wish you success.
