Unhappy XK Engine

Hello Forum !!. I am in the throes of an Autotune Aristocat project completion. The engine is unusual. Engine is 4.2L, casting date 11-08-1977, Engine Number "BH272" !!!! . Can any one throw any light on this strange number ?? Could it have been originally sold to Alvis for military use?.
Also the head seems to be bonded to the block.??? Plenty of penetrating around studs. Currently suspending the engine by straps under both manifolds (head nuts removed) and with 500 odd lbs therefore pulling on the head coupled with drifting with copper drift & lump hammer the head refuses to part company with the block. Never encountered anything like it. Anyone got any ideas ??

Welcome to the forums Aristocatman,

Which is your priority?
1. separating the head from the block
2. researching the numbering

In either case, some photos are likely to assist in getting any advice.

Hi thanks for reponse . Engine number would of prime interest.

On the head removal thing I have removed core plugs to find two studs corroded to around 8mm dia so good chance they are going to have to be drilled out - Oh Joy!!!

The studs sound challenging!

Is this BH272 definitely the engine number and not a casting number? A (2-Alpha + 3-Numeric) casting reference is quite common on the XK engine.
