Looks Good! Is it loud? Some of those cans are just that. Cans with little to no baffling. No worries, I used to ride my Buddy's Z1 900 with a 4 into 1 Kerker. Usually without the baffle. One of the prettiest sounding bikes on the Planet!

On Another note I 'am now the proud owner of a 1988 NX650!!!!!! I talked to the owner last night, it's been all redone frame, bearings, seals etc. etc. Everything except for the bodywork, which is not in bad shape to begin with. He wanted $1900.00 and I said not a problem, and consider it sold. He said it's mine. So now I have to wait till the end of school to get my bonus. So I can afford it without having to get a loan. So I'm waiting for the next 2 weeks to get over. Quickly PLEASE LORD!!!!

Jack, that is a good looking off roader. Anything that age here in that condition will attract the COVID tax, stoner tax, beer tax, extra tax, mates tax, finders tax, sellers premium and whatever other tax you can add.
You wouldn’t get any 80’s XR etc under $6000 AUD.

 

Youch ! That's dang near what a new XR Costs. They're about $7000 + here, and they're just a dual purpose dirt bike. The NX has a little class to it.

It sounds to me like they have you guy's TAXED to Death! We've got a few taxes here. Fortunately the bike is past the age, and the sales price is lower then the dollar amount. So no sales tax at all. it will cost me roughly $50.00 bucks for title and license. Sucks that they're trying to squeeze the life out of you.

Just joking about the taxes, it is just how it seems since COVID. Anything old has sky rocketed in price.
I could sell my GSX11 parts bike in pieces for $2000-$3000. Just gone crazy here.

I could get probably 6k + for my ZRX with 188,000 km on it, I paid 3500 for it 7 years ago with about 20k on it.

 

Yeah My wife coined a term Several years ago, that describes it very well, Bat **** Crazy! Don't ask me where she came up with it, but she's said it for years now. We also are having the issue of everything has gone nuts in cost. Case in point I'm searching for a replacement truck for the School Trash Truck. Trucks that a year ago I could buy for 1500. to 2000. are now 5 to 6 Grand!!! Its absolutely Ludacris! Even Kelly Blue Book, and NADA. can't keep up with it. Vehicle evaluation companies. Incase you hadn't heard of them?
The car dealers are getting absolutely Rich. With all the money the Government has thrown at us. There damn near isn't a decent used truck to be had. I've looked for the last couple weeks. 90% of them are either already sold, or so ridiculous in price. I still haven't found one to replace the Trash Truck!

“Red Book” here, and it has always been outdated. It’s the car salesman’s bible, they pull it out to give you an absolutely ridiculous trade in price.
Check Red Book price then add 50% and you are in the ball park of actual private sale price.

 

Just to update on the search for an NX650 / Dominator! I found one, and went to Conroe Texas, USA about 10 hours south of me, and picked it up last weekend. So it runs but has terrible top end noise, I'm betting on the timing chain, and guides as they are prone to wear especially if they aren't maintained well. It has 19,876 miles on it, and looks in dang good shape for a 33 year old Dirt Bike. So I ordered all the timing chain parts, and have been informed the lower timing sprocket, is on Backorder ARRRGGGGGGG! So I either need to cancel that gear, and find another one somewhere else or do without it. Which isn't what I want to do. I did ride it enough to know it will do everything I want once it's all put back together. YES!!!!!!

I cancelled the timing sprocket I had on order. Bike Bandit said it wouldn't be released until June 21st, at the earliest. So I called the local Honda Dealer, as the sprocket I need is the same from 1988 all the way to today. It's used in all XR, XL, and NX, 650's. He said he didn't have one, so I asked if any other dealers might have one? He did a search, and said a Dealer in New York had one in stock, Cool! So the next morning I called New York, and it's on it's way! I should have it in roughly 4 to 5 days! Heck of a lot better the 2 weeks +. I just went on my 2 weeks Vacation, so here's hoping the stuff all gets here in time!

You know here in the USA, back in the 50's and 60's mail order sucked!!!! So in the 70's companies started putting stuff on shelves, and having things "In Stock" and you could get most things when you needed it, and not have to wait for several weeks to find out the part was wrong, wouldn't fit, was hideous, etc. The along came EBay! and now we are back to Futchin! "Mail Order" and guess what it Still Sucks!!! Just My Thoughts.

I was always told that was the cost of doing business. But you had to be savvy with what sold, and what didn't. So a lot of dealers over bought of things that wouldn't sell, and not enough of the things that would. That has changed a lot with the advent of computers. Just look at Wal Mart, if they have something that doesn't sell. A month or so later it's gone off the shelf. There was also the fact that to be a "dealer" of a certain brand, you had to take a allotted set of parts. I worked for a Kawasaki Dealer in 77". They had been a Studebaker back in the 50's, and 60's. The attic of the building was still full of old fenders, doors, and tons of miscellaneous parts. I was told by the owner most of it he had to purchase when he became a dealer.

Cool Cool Cool!!! Looks like a great day out! Good to see you back in the groove. I'll bet your Kawi is faster then the Norton, But he was having just as much FUN!!! Norton's never got real popular over here. I had a Buddy over here that had a 900cc Comando with extended forks. He brought it to me running on 1 cylinder, I told him he had the worlds only 450cc Norton! I found the last guy who tuned it up, got the point wire so close to the ground side of the points vibration had cause the wire to move around and ground out the points, but only partially as Bubba said sometimes it would run fine, then start missing. It got worse the warmer it got when everything expanded. After a little rerouting of the wire, setting the timing, and adjusting the carbs we definitely had a "Snortin Norton!" It was the first one I'd ever worked on. Cool Old Bike.

Toughed up the edges of the leather on the door pulls and the central console to cover wear in the stitching area .

Haven’t heard from the guy that was buying the XJR motor in over 12 months so I have started sourcing parts to put it back on the the road.
Should be ready to start it tomorrow after 16 months. At least run the engine for a bit.

Then find a complete front end for it, I have a ZXR600 front on it for now to move it around.

 

Wow I studied the pics, and can't see any frame damage. No unusual bends anywhere, I can't believe it took that hard of a hit, and didn't bend the frame! Wow! Hope it still runs good, no noise etc.

I was surprised too. I expected to find more damage under the tank than I did.
Tank, exhaust and oil cooler mounts needed a bit of tweaking to make everything fit. It seems they along with the forks took most of the hit.

 

That's a tough frame! Most of the time when you snap off the fork legs like that, the frame is toast. But, they have come a long way in design, and construction since I was working on them. How much is a new front end gonna cost you? If you can even find one??? Cause most wrecked motorcycles are hit in the front, to begin with? I guess it wouldn't be to ridiculous to get some bars, a triple tree, and some fork tubes. Ebay may be a good place to find things, but the shipping may end up costing you more then getting them from a dealer??? Then you still need brakes, discs, wheel, and the hardware. Just a cautious note check everything you try to reuse from the original stuff, as I seen the parts look and function good, then fail a short time later, just be careful. Things were put under way more stress them they were ever designed to take.

There have been two complete rolling chassis available in the last 12 months at around $1000.
They come up here as the 1300 engine is used in two compact race car categories here. I’ll just wait for one, the most important thing at the moment is running the engine.

Nothing except the front master cylinder was salvageable from brakes so everything will be replaced. The only thing I really want to retain is the speedo internals so the odometer is correct.

 

Thought you guys would appreciate some Italian eye candy. Will be riding it at Virginia International Raceway July 9 and 10. It will be my first time riding it on the track. It is a 2018 Aprilia RSV4 RFLE..
