$1200 for fixing heater. Should I change the Heater Valve?
My cars heater wasn't working, so I took it to the dealer for an inspection. They told me I had to change the auxiliary/coolant pump and they charged me $500 for it. Once that was done the problem wasn't solved. They told me there is a second problem and I have to change the heater valve because it's not opening, but we couldn't know this unless we changed the coolant(So the coolant had to be changed anyways according to them). They are asking me for $680 to fix this! ~ $350 labor and $330 part.
This is my first car and I bought is last month, I have no idea what to do! Any suggestions as what I should do about this?! I am a student so spending almost $1200 on a heater of my car is really crazy! Especially since I just bought it for $5000.
It's a Jaguar S-Type V8, year 2000 with 140000 miles.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The dealer could very well be right. the 'coolant valve' DCCV is a common source of issues as the cars age.
Not sure if a student buying a 14 year old high end luxury car with 140K miles and not planning on doing DIY for expensive repairs is a good move.
