Default 01 S-TYPE tranny issue is lucas no slip ok 2 use???

Hi all

Here is my question I have a 01 stype 113k miles 3.0l automatic
When I **** from park to drive or park to reverse it takes a second and then finally shifts into gear. If I don't drive it for 3 days it will slip a few times from a stop then will drive fine. I had a similar problem in a jeep and lucus tranny fluid fixed it right up. But to my understanding the transmission fluid on these cars is not your typical run of the mill found at a gas station fluid.

So I'm wondering if I could put a little Lucas in there if it needs any without being in a bigger mess than I already am

I really don't wanna change all the fluid cause its such a painstaking process and parts aren't sold at any local auto store.

I'm selling the car and don't foresee getting over $5k so I don't want to drop 3 grand into transmission work but at the same time I don't want to have to sell it for $3k or less cause some one thinks the transmission is going out

I also read in another post something about slack in the shifter cable might be causing a similar problem

I'm at my whits ends with this car so any info will help thank you very very much

You sound like you've read the wrong posts about trans. Make sure you read the ones on here about the Ford 5R55N. Relatively easy & cheap to change fluid or even some parts if needed. Doesn't to me sound like it's a cable issue.

Hey jagv8 I noticed u have made posts on similar topics so I take it your pretty knowledgeable when it comes to this transmission. What do you think is causing my delayed shift I've found several people on here with the same problem but none who have just done one thing to fix it all have replaced a number of things at once and from the sounds of it it fixed it but its as if you weren't getting spark so u replace the cap an rotor, coil, plug wires, spark plugs, and ignition switch. I mean yeah of course you will have spark by the end of it but in reality all you needed was one spark plug you see what I'm saying. So from the sounds of it do I need to get a number of different parts to resolve my issue or does it sound like something as simple as the slack in the cable? Thank you for your prompt reply by the way

So from what I've read and have established is I need a solenoid pack and completely flush the tranny? Sound about right?

Only way to tell is to take it apart unless you know an expert who can diagnose without doing that. At the least you could check the fill level.

Unless it's apart and you can recognise what's wrong, you're gonna be scratching your head. You'll still have far more knowledge of your actual box than anyone can ever get from reading posts.
