01 S-Type 3.0. OK, got the alarm to stop and car stats, now it wont shut off
After having the problem with alarm going off and not allowing the engine to turn over, now I have a different problem. Got the battery charged, checked out at Auto Zone, reinstalled got a different alarm code. Got that to clear, now the car will start, but will not shut off, continues to run with key in "off" position. Dealer said to disconnect battery, no joy car still ran. Reconnected battery, pulled fuel pump fuse still runs. Pulled the diode in front fuse box, it shut off. Four relays in trunk still energized, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Dan

OK JagV8, is there anything I can safely lube the ignition cylinder with?. When I got home I reinstalled the diode, car started, cylinder felt funny, when key was installed there was no resistance from the off position through the accessory area. when I tried to shut it off, I jiggled it a few times, then there was some pressure and it now will shut off. Don't want to replace the switch if I don't have to. Is graphite safe?, I know it can cause electrical problems.
Thanks, Dan

Good advice from JagV8.
The electrical section of these switches is now starting to become an issue, and is age related.
Our Silver car had that "lack of resistance" from Off to 1, so I went digging, oh my, bad idea, but in too far to back out now. Eventually got the electrical bit OUT of the mechanical bit, probably easier if I had no arthritis, but a quick spray with contact cleaner, some Silicone Spray afte that, re-inserted, good as.
Spoke to a guy at work some days later, and the Ford Territory (Down here car) has a switch thet looks identical to the Jag switch, and they are having all sorts of failures of them, same complaint, car wont switch OFF, and a good clean/lube, and they are good to go.
