Welcome to the forum Derrick,

I've moved your question from Off Topic to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. No, the 4.0s were not junk, they just had some significant problems that got resolved with the later redesign. But the motor was one of those problem areas and the one that you've, unfortunately, encountered... :-(

There really is no good news, your only choice is to find another 4.0 and to do an engine swap. The problem is that you really won't know if the new engine is liable to destroy itself as the one in the car you have already did.

So welcome to the group, look around for info, but I'm not sure that you're going to be very happy with what you learn here.

These cars are very complex, expensive to repair, can only be serviced by the dealer (an exaggeration yes, but independent shops are very hard to find), and there are few if any after market parts. I feel that to restore your car you are looking at major expenses and that it, ultimately, may not be worth while. You would end up with a pretty nice car, but it will have cost you a lot of money and will have no resale value.

And no, you can't use the Lincoln engine, the entire engine and transmission control systems are completely different. The car would never run with that engine.

My first thought is that the people who screwed up the rebuild should pay for the fix. As for a full engine swap, there is a complete, still in the car 4.0 and trans in Pell City, Alabama if that might help you. I check it recently and all fluids are good and zero damage. The car was wrecked in the back. the front is fine.

So Warsaw isn't in Wisconsin? My bad. The idiots who screwed up the engine should still pay to fix it.

The U. S. Has many "sister" cities, with famous names as those in Europe. Finding a donor engine may be a challenge, but not impossible. I'm surprised that some experienced mechanic, who should have known better, would install any engine that hasn't been through proactive upgrades before installation; and warranty the work (usually 12 months or 12,000 miles).

In this case, while the engine is on a stand, at minimum, the timing chain guides, and the chains themselves should have been replaced, along with a new water pump.

Since no amateur mechanics should be working on luxury vehicle engines to begin with, a specialist should be able to locate you a donor engine, and do it correctly (and stand behind the work).
