Default 2000 S-Type Dash Trim

I noticed a crack on the dash wood trim and would like to replace/repair it. Does anyone know how to take this off? Does the entire dash have to be dismantled? Or, Does it just pop off? I don't want to take the chance and damaging it more than it already is.

Thanks,

Mike

FYI, I looked at the JTIS and found nothing in regards to removing the wood trim from the dash.

Dealer removed mine for repair before warranty ended. Put a temp wood dash in place while it was out to be refinished.Don't think it could of been drivable without the temp piece in place. Was gone 3 weeks before it was reinstalled.
Don't know if this helps but gives you some info on the temp part.

I'm at work taking a bit of a break so I don't have access to my JTIS.

So, try this. Search for the procedure to replace a part that you know is buried deep in the dash, like a heater core or blower. That should have a part in it that tells you how to pull the dash trim.

Default Plastic dash trim cracked

Hey everyone. I have a 2000 S-type and the plastic trim that touches the windshield cracked when I was defrosting. I keep looking online and all I see are dash kits etc. Does anyone know what that plastic piece is called and where I can find one? Thank you in advance for your help.

You are not alone. My 2002 is cracked in the exact same spot. Looked at 2 possible donors on Craigslist and one was missing and the other split in 3 places. Must be common.

If I understand you correctly, you are referring to the demister grille, which runs along the top of the fascia just below the windscreen to direct air onto the glass. If this is indeed the part you are describing, they are available in different colours to match the interior components.

You need to provide the VIN and interior colour code or colour name so the correct part can be ordered from Jaguar.

That's the problem with large parts on EBay...shipping is high. I wouldn't give up on Craigslist but that's a needle in a haystack. And you have to be first in line when one does come up. Some of these non-dealer repair places that specialize in Jaguar and others have a yard full of donor cars that may have a good one.

Good luck!

If it is the dash board air vent. The part numbers are XR823483 (right) XR823484 (left).

If you google just the part number then a number of sellers will come up.

I believe the part being sought is the demister grille, which has a part number based on the matching interior colour and VIN.

N8Head I am sorry for posting the wrong part and part number. It is XR825142 with a 3 letter code for the colour as NBCat has mentioned. For instance, XR825142LEG is black.

This link has them. But postage (as mentioned in the above posts) is expensive.

If you decide to go with this company perhaps a third party shipping agent would be less expensive. It is only a small part with minimal weight. It is also in used condition so may not be worth the effort.

There are discussions posted on the forum about this. I have not attempted to remove the wood myself (prepared to live with the crack as not confident enough). The discussion in the link below deals with your model with photos and a link to a restorer and post 12 has good removal information. However, if you search you will find more out there.
