Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you probably are looking at a $200 paperweight. On the early models (1999-2002), you can NOT swap the PCM (Powertrain Control Module, same as the "engine ECU"?) from one vehicle to another.

Here's the info, straight from Jaguar, via Gus:

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Trai...es/870B_SG.pdf

Read pages 1-8 through 1-10. It describes how once the VIN is written into memory, it cannot be overwritten.

The note on page 1-10 is even clearer:

"Once a PCM is configured to a vehicle, it cannot be reconfigured to another vehicle."

The same page also mentions: "The new PCM must be configured to the instrument pack as part of the security system set-up. If this is not carried out, the engine will not start."

So in other words, if you wanted to bring this car back to life, you will need to find a new, never-configured PCM. That will probably have to come from the dealer, which will be spendy. Even if you find another source, some dealer-level programming will still be required. Don't waste your money trying a used PCM from eBay, etc. Per the manual above, it will not work.

Wish I had better news for you.

Or... I suppose you can swap all the modules related to VID block / VIN info / immo.

Also, the ones you put in must match the details of your car very closely - so closely that they don't know they've been swapped in.

I guess at least PCM, ICM (cluster) and REM/FEM and ... not sure if others.

what happens if a computer is put in from a donor car, does it still turn over or just shut off fuel

Default Update

An update: Apparently the information from the training guide is no longer accurate. Please see post #5 in this thread:

I'm not well versed in all of the details of the reprogramming required. I'm only reporting that it can be done, despite what the training guide said.

Be cautious because another Tech has said not doable with a used PCM on the 99-02 cars (unless you also carry over the related modules).

Yes, yes, good point. I was just trying to clean up my previous blanket statement that you couldn't do it under any circumstances. Blameshifting, so to speak.

Details? I'm fuzzier than a baby peach on how to actually do the swap. Be sure to ask first and hopefully somebody more in the know can chime in.
