Default 2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 Trans Problem

Hey guys im a new jag driver and ive had some problems recently. After about 5 minutes of normal driving my engine will start throwing very high RPM's for the speed im going. One minute i will be around 1500 at 60 MPH, next thing i know its at 35-4000. Before this happens my trans shifts and runs perfectly. No grinding or anything like that. Could it be a sensor, fuse, computer problem?? Thank you guys so much.

What is the number of kilometres/miles on the vehicle and is the MIL illuminated with codes present? Does the vehicle go into 'restricted performance' mode?

Could be your TQ slipping out of OD... You should be able to pull any P codes with a OBDII reader as the 5R55N trans is operated through the PCM... again, sounds mechanical in nature.

Best to let a indy trans shop diagnose...

Its a shame that a car like this comes with a crap transmission. I drove a 77 Pontiac Bonneville to 200k miles without any major issues.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. So whats my next step? I was thinking of taking it to a Mr.Transmission in a town close to me it says they'll do a transmission diagnostic for free.

A lot of people have driven a "something" to 200K even though others have had problems. One good car means zero. A few bad ones... also zero.

my 2000 S Type is approaching 220K miles - to me it's all about maintenance. (Also driven a 78 Trans Am - over 150K miles before selling...
