Hello Graham-

Are you referring to the coolant expansion tank on the left of the center left when you open the hood?

Remove the 'crossbar' from the wings and bulkhead. Disconnect the coolant hose(s), remove the fasteners and pry the reservoir from the area.

Snaking the coolant hose to the pipe on the bulkhead under the brake booster can be tricky.

From the how-to section, but alas the pictures are now gone. This is in a 4.0, but I think the 3.0 should be similar:

When I replaced the tank on my '02 V6, the thing I remember was initially fighting with the hose at the bottom. After much head-scratching and the use of professional grade profanity, I figured out a much easier method. Leave the hose attached to the tank, and disconnect it at the opposite end where access is much better. Remove the tank and hose together, and then separate them on your workbench. Move the hose over to the new tank, and install them as an assembly. This was WAY easier than trying to deal with the hose connection with the tank installed.

Replacing the expansion tank on the pre-facelift 3.0 litre cars is much easier than on the V8s.

I find it much easier to move the expansion tank into position and then connect the hoses to the pipes first before installing the two bolts that hold the tank in place.
