Default 2003 S Type Security

I recently purchased a 2003 s type and the other day my daughter had the car and it wouldnt start. I went over and it looks as though the security system has armed itself. I called a tow company and they came out and checked the battery, it is fine. How do I proceed, take to the dealer to get a new key? Call a lock smith? The current key lets me in but when i try to start it all the gauges go crazy. Thanks in advance for any help.

I thought if you had the black key not the green key you can insert the key and start the car and this will reset the alarm.

Default Thank you

As a suspected it was the chip in the key, it fell out of the key and the car locked down. I had the chip replaced for immediate use and have ordered a new one. All is good and running just fine!!

The chip in the key would have been the last thing I would have thought of checking. Was this obvious and what was involved in replacing it?

How can the chip fall out? It's totally enclosed, isn't it?

The "chip" or technically called the transponder in located in the black part of the key, if you look at it you will see what appears to be a latch but it is glued in. In this case the adhesive material came undone and the chip fell out. I call a high security key replacement company and he knew within seconds what the issue was. Took the key replaced the chip installed the latch and the adhesive and while he was at it he had a high security cutting machine at home in which he made me a new key with transponder and all for under $300.....life saver..

I had mine apart to change the battery a while back but still am amazed it could fall out. It was awkward to get apart. One of us is lucky or unlucky LOL

I think that's mostly true but apparenty Timpsons can do it over here and I guess anyone who's got the right kit plus security authorisation (there's a mechanism in place in the USA, at least) also can. I don't think it's commonplace.
