Default 2004 S-Type Wheel Offset

I have read several times on this forum that the S-Type (2004) wheel offset is about 40 to 50mm. I believe the official number is 42mm. I have a set of a 10 spoke chrome Jaguar wheels (17") that have a 60mm offset. My concern is that the 40mm wheels presently on the car (aftermarket) will allow a slight tire rub on the rear fender lips when I have 4 adults in the car and go over a dip in the road. My solution is to switch to the OEM Jag wheels(60mm offset) I have but I do not understand how a 40mm offset can be considered stock under these circumstances. Comments?

Default Offset

Hi, I have S-type MY 2003 and my official offset (ET value) is 60. Offset 45 means, that wheel will be more out from the body. But I have problem to buy wheel with ET60 (I mean not Jaguar made), so I bought wheel ET45 and it is OK.

40mm is NOT a stock offset for Jag wheels.

Both the 16x7.5 and the 17x7.5 factory S-type wheels are ET 60. Most Jag wheels have a high positive offset. Even the 19x8.5" Rear wheel (Biggest ever fitted to an S-type from the factory), is ET 49. Which moves the centerline of the wheel 11mm outboard from the 17" wheel. I currently have 19x8.5 rear wheels (aftermarket) with et42 and a 275/35/19 rear tire, and it rubs.. Over dips in the road, or harsh bumps, with just me in it. If I had a narrower tire, or a bit more positive offset it would be 100% fine. There is a lot of room in the wheel wells of an S-Type, the suspension is FAR inboard.

What size wheel and tire do you have - I should be able to let you know if it rubs.
The problem with all these aftermarket wheels with lower offsets is that while you can take away offset with spacers, you can't add it..

I know what you mean. I had actually contemplated machining some off the wheel to create more offset but they don't put much on these wheels to begin with so safety is a concern. The wheels I have on the car are 40mm as I mentioned. The tires I have mounted on them are 235/50/17 and they do rub in the back but only fully loaded (4 adults). I have a set of Jag 60mm wheels that had really bad chrome on them so I beadblasted them and repainted silver and they look OK. I had hoped to get a nice set of 17" chromes for it but when I check out the sites they keep referring to 42mm offsets as my only option. I did not want to spend money on a set of wheels and find that they rubbed with a car load. Does anyone use 42mm wheels with this tire size and if so, any problems?

Default Help with rim placement

Androulakis this message is for you please help! I want to purchase 2005 s type ti s to put on my jaguar s type r 2003 model. They are both 18 in in size but the rears of this s type rim isn't staggered. Regular 245 40 18 all around wheels. My jaguar s type r has rear 18 by 9.5 .. Will 18 by 8.5 fit in the rear without a problem. Same bolt pattern. Just don't know the offset.

I hope you're not here in the UK as anything so narrow may well be illegal (and you'd have to declare them to insurance co but remember that doesn't make them legal!). OE rear are 9.5" with such as 275/35R18 tyres and even those can spin.

My 04 has 2010 Xkr wheels and they are 20". Running a 245-35-20 tire. Just a hair big, but no rubs.....

Frankly sounds too narrow. Why do it?
