2005 Jaguar stype 3.0 v6 catalyic convetors swap with magnaflow
What are some good cat's to swap both cat convertors, some customs? i don't mind taking it to a muffler weld shop. any suggestions on any good cats to buy or should just stick to OEM. Any performance differences'. i got a P0420 code. so i wanna swap out both cats . any good links on eBay or any suggestions? should i stick to OEM or universal, anyone notice any difference's between performance and engine longevity or engine codes o2 wise with this swap that wont go away. i also noticed when i put the catalytic convertor cleaner in the gas tank the right muffler blew out a lot of white smoke as compare to the left one. Also p0420 is related to the right cat... so any suggestions on sticking to OEM or universal ? like i said i dont mind welding
Where are you located? Some jurisdictions require only CARB certified catalysts be used as replacements. A local exhaust specialist can probably provide choices that are less expensive than OEM catalysts.
S-types were built to a California emissions compliance spec, regardless of what state they were actually sold in. A local muffler specialist would know which aftermarket units, Magnaflow or otherwise, will be Illinois emission regs compliant. OE are pretty pricey...
Having chased the dreaded P0420 code for a year now, I can pretty much guarantee your problem isnt the cats.
YOU HAVE A VACUUM LEAK.
Trust me. you do. Its very tiny so the car doesnt seem to run bad. but its slowly changing your stft and then it thinks the cats are not work right and flags the code. I have NEW CATS on my car. I still get the code once a month and then it goes away. This past week I went at it full bore and found my bank one o2 sensors are slightly biased negative meaning its slightly lean. It never throws a code for STFT. I only get the P0420 code. Today I may have found it. I put the Bank 1 and Bank 2 Sensor 1 and sensor 2 signals up on SDD and tried spraying carb cleaner in various places and yup, its at leak. I foubnd the injector orings for two ports register a leak when i hit them so i kinda pressed the injectors back into place and gave em a lil twist and it seems to have fixed it. I will know in the next few weeks.
I know the cat pipes I got from rock auto were only $200 each but they arent as nice as the stock pieces. UNFORTUNATELY a previous owner jacked up the stock pieces by welding in new cats using a much small inlet and outlet tube so i had reason to change them anyways.
and i only have a foxwell 520pro. i can pull a o2 data log on it and review from when i drive but what is it have to look for? what ranges seem to indicate a vacuum leak? and due that weld job looks horrible lol!
when you say injectors are you refering to fuel injectors? or the 02 sensors?
yes fuel injectors. I had to replace the dreaded coolant hose under the supercharger so I had my injectors cleaned ad services and reinstalled with all new orings and gaskets along with the new cat pipes and new O2 sensors.
AND I STILL THREW P0420 codes!!! It only takes a tiny air leak before the car starts adjusting and making excuses for it. and it loves to blame P0420 but its a liar! its really a tiny leak! I keep finding them one after another

what I noticed was my bank 1 graph was switching as it should as you can see but when I narrowed down the Y axis to get more resolution, I could see bank 1 was averaging lower than bank 2 as if it were offset very slightly. I dfont really have pics of it because I was taking video at the time and they look like crap.
But heres the thing, I would never have thought htere was problem because my numbers were all reasonable and in the correct range. It was only when you compared bank 1 to bank 2 that the offset was seen, Had I not had a Bank 1 P0420 code, I wouldnt have though tanything of it but i was specifically ;looking for a difference between banks 1 and 2 and the switching frequency and offests were the only things I could see.
So today I went back in with carb cleaner and started spraying tiny bits here and there to see when the STFT or the O2 sensor voltages and currents WIGGLED slightly telling me it sensed the carb cleaner.
I have got a v6 3.0 2005 jaguar though so i can really spray carb cleaner near the fuel injectors because the upper intake manifold is in the way. But i seriously think its the Catalytic convertor causing the RP code. i just cold started the Jaguar right now and the RP code came of then when i parked it came back on and flashed on and off but i only got the RP to go off when i put Catalcean in . It runs perfect. And p0420 refers to the right catalytic convertor. so im gonna swap both Cats with universals and ill check for vac leaks while im down their. But p0420 doesn't bring the RP on. It just shows as pending always. I only get the RP to go off when i put the Cataclean in. Also the car was in horrible shape when i got it . It sat in Wisconsin for 4 years in the snow and never moved.
will a 2004 jaguar 3.0 v6 base model catalytic convertor assembly work for a 2005 jaguar stype 3.0 v6 base model? im looking for one on ebay and its saying it will fit. EBAY LNIK < Link*.
It should work; the manifolding was changed with the 2002.5 model (2003 MY in the US) and remained unchanged from the point forward to the end of production.
