Default 2005 S type 3.0 V6 evap leak, codes, and tank trouble

Hello everyone,

I search and searched and couldn't really find much on the 3.0 with an evap leak code and fix that can help me. My car is displaying check engine light and on a full tank will have a gas smell in the car. I have replaced the gas cap twice. Also I have replaced the entire bracket, hoses and evap canister that is under the hood on the drivers side. Still no fix. Code numbers I can't remember but I will update later. There were 2 and they both said evap leak. One said small evap leak. The other day I filled up and went home and noticed the smell was very strong of gas inside and looked under the car and the driver side of the tank had a small drip. I found the recall for this tank and waiting to call jag to see if they can confirm based on the vin that my vehicle is on the recall list for the tank. I am going to remove the back seats later this weekend to see the pump and the seal around it. Hoping I can find the leak and identify the part I need to replace/repair. It seems these tanks are a little hard to find but are available on eBay and other sites. Also the pump itself has a wide range on price. From 200-800 depending on who's selling it. So if you can help with any advice on this I would appreciate it. This will be a first for me on a jag but seems pretty easy. I will try to take photos and get them on here. Has anyone else here expireneced this and successfully had it repaired?

I think my money would be on the tank seals.
There are a few threads and I don't think there is any significant difference between the V8 & 6. Seems like the tanks are like hens teeth.

If Norri is right and fuel tanks and maybe the fuel pump are pretty much the same for the 3.0 and 4.2 then the thread dated 2/17/17 "S-Type Fuel Pump replacement for $10 with DIY Video" is worth looking at if you find out the leak is from the pump. I am interested if you find a solution because I also have a fuel smell with a full tank of gas so I hope you are successful.

Well I unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to take some photos but it is leaking from the driver side of the tank. I took the back seats out and identified that. I also verified that it was on the recall and reconfirmed that Jag will only fix it once. Of course I have an issue getting it validated due to Myrtle beach not having a certified jag dealer and they want me to drive 3 hours to have there tech say it is the seals on the tank where the pump is. The work done on the recall has included a additional clamp that I am having a hard time removing it in a way that it can be reinstalled. So for now I am brain storming. Thank you all for the feedback and info.

Good job troubleshooting and please post your final fix if you can.

As you know the 2005 model only had one recall and it was the fuel tank. It can be a very expensive repair as Jaguar has went so far as to install a complete fuel tank/system from an XF to fix it under warranty.

Depending on which seals you have there may not be any factory replacement parts.

You can change the fuel pump for 10 dollars instead of paying 200-800 that you refered to
See this you tube vid

If you have the ring type of seal you can make a tool out of plastic drainage pipe. Somebody posted here on this forum on how to make it but I cannot find it anymore.
I expect that somebody will be able to point you to where it is.

Sorry it's been a while, thank you for sharing the home made tool. Now that the weather here at Myrtle is cooling down I plan on installing new o ring type gasket where it apears to be leaking in the driver side back seat. I will take some photos soon and add them. I am hoping this will take care of it. The gaskets costs about $20 off eBay. Factory... no but factory failed twice and apparently most just replace the tank at a much bigger cost. I will be back with results hopefully before winter.

If you have the eBay item # or name that will make it easier to find, it will be appreciated. I look forward to your pictures.

The jag dealer in Charleston SC wanted $250 for this part. eBay, $65. Even included a new temp sensor.

Sorry wrong part. Here is the o ring gasket. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter v6 or v8.

Is there any kind of sealant that could be applied to the gasket or O rings that won't dissolve by contact with gasoline?

Default Anyone know how to remove this clamp?

Hi, it’s been a while and I’m finally trying to fix this leak. I can’t figure out how to remove this clamp. Any ideas?
