Default 2005 str

Well as some of you may know my 2003 S type was ah "Customized" by a 3 three series bimmer doing about 35mph into the back end of my car. So a replacement was called for. I found a 2005 STR wit 82k on the clock and bought it blind aside from a few minor issues, WOW! This car is soooo wrong! I see why you guys rave about them the 4.2 is wonderful but the supercharger moves it into a whole different realm.

Nice move steadicam! Freaking thing boogies huh? "Torque Monster" i.e. 410 lb/ft comes in very low and 400 hp mid-range through beyond. Now sit down, and I'll tell ya how we're gunna mod her....

No modding until the following are done...The time is now to replace the coolant overflow tank, DCCV, change the tranny fluid, locktite the shifter to tranny bolts, replace your lugnuts and get an alignment to the new specs in the S-Type FAQ...

Ok, you got me all concerned sir since I just bout an 03 STR. I am replacing the overflow tank because well mine is broken. However, everything you else mentioned I am confused about! Maybe you can take the liberty and help explain what you said?

1) Overflow tank leaks in all of our cars - replace so it does not leak and cause overheat, self explanatory
2) DCCV - ???? Found this thread, my AC blows cold, and in AZ we dont use heat lol so I am not sure if this is MANDATORY maintenance. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-source-27185/
3) Tranny fluid - I understand if its low it can cause issues, how much milage or years would be a good time to do this?
4) loctite tranny bolts - my shifter shifts smooooth, its this preventative or mandatory?
5) lugnuts - read that these strip, I have new tires and they look good so again preventative or mandatory?

1) you skipped the alignment...If your car wasn't aligned with the new specs, it will eat the inside of the tires...
2) most if not all DCCV fail, and yes you got the right thread; what's worse is when your coolant tank leaks, it tends to cause the DCCV to fail sooner...If the $200ish DCCV does blow, it takes out the climate control $100...Do yourself a favor and replace it sooner than later before it breaks in July, at the worst possible time...
3) not a lot of people here have 100K+ miles on the car, all we know is when you remove the fluid, it never looks pretty...Jag recommends NEVER to change the fluid, unless there's shifting problems then there's a TSB to remove the fluid...Changing the fluid and filter (about $350 in parts) sooner than later will help your trans live a long life...We put a lot of power through it and furthermore just about every other car manufacture, especially performance models highly recommend transmission service well before 100K miles...
4) most bolts come loose and can fall out altogether, when that happens you cannot shift out of park, worse yet, if you push too hard you may break the shifter which is a $700 part...Bolts are under car but very easy to access and locktite is cheap...
5) Most shops can get off stripped lugs, but if and when you get a flat when it's pouring down rain on the side of the highway, do you really want to deal with stripped lug you can't get off? $23 for the lugs, then about $20 for a new lug wrench or breakerbar & socket...Again, odds are without an alignment to the updated specs, it'll eat the insides of your new tires...

This should ensure a nearly problem free jag, there is some extra things to look out for such as the above the window trim clips breaking, headlight aiming downward due to a clip breaking (free diy fix), needing a new power window motor and the infamous under the supercharger leak...

Fortunately, the car was realigned and new tires put on 1000 miles before I bought it. The coolant tank has no leaks at this time, but I'm watching it like a hawk. As for any other issues I will have to do a thorough inspection once the whiplash heals up lol.

Just a note on alignment. Be aware there are wrong specs out there for the 2003 and up S Type. Brutal has mentioned this several times. So watch front tire inner edge wear closely.

The correct spec's are listed on this forum. Take a look in the FAQ.

Good advice Bacardi. It seems the OP's 03 STR escaped some of the issues many of us had to address.
