Default 2005 transmission service question

Have a 2005 s type with 50 k original miles.Started to get a intermittent hard shift from 2nd to 3rd gears.Disconnected battery for one hour and the shifts are almost back to 100 percent, but I would like to do a service including filter/pan,
Fluid mercon sp,sleeve and bridge gasket.Do I have to remove the valve body to get to the bridge gasket and should I change anything else while in there? I am a mechanic for a school district in New York that has done numerous tranny services but this will be my first for the jag. Thanks in advance,Dave

Hello Dave welcome to the forum.

You will find many threads about our ZF6H26 auto boxes here. I am unfamiliar with the term "bridge gasket". I am assuming you are talking about the pan gasket. The filter, gasket and pan come as 1 unit.

Below you will find some interesting links to read up on procedure, where to get parts etc..

'original miles'. This expression seems to be heard only in the US. What does it mean?

When we say original miles,it refers to the fact that the miles are true, usually verifiable, condition reflects the mileage and that the odometer is in working order. In my case it also means that I purchased from the original owner ,who truly was a little old woman from Florida.

Sometimes a 'CLEAR TCM ADAPTATIONS' will be needed for it to 'relearn' normal shifting.

I had a customer that had a low fuid level from a leaking pan seal and the TCM learned 'bad habits'.

New pan/filter/fluid and it still sifted like crap.

Clear Adaptions and all was well again.

My 2005 S Type 3.0 V6 has 111,000 miles and a local European Motor shop is proposing a BG Transmission Service which is a flush and fill. If the car had under 100K it would provide a lifetime warranty if redone it every 30,000 miles.
Looks like I can't get the warranty and I'm asking if this is a viable option?

Did get a Gear Box Fault but it looks like battery is weak. Only got this code once and it was after sitting in a parking lot idling for a hour.
Getting codes checked now and apparently a solenoid code came up.
I baby the car and the transmission has been flawless. No problems since the gear box fault a week ago.

What exactly are they proposing for a 'flush'?

There is a procedure for draining and refilling the ZF 6HP26/28 correctly listed in the attached file.

The pan should be replaced as the filter is part of the pan. Here is the correct pan tightening sequence:

I understand it's a full flush/clean of the system and refill with BG ATF. these are the specs, which include Shell M-1375.4, and ZF LifeGuard Fluid 6 (S671090255), LifeGuard Fluid 6 Plus (S671090281), LifeGuard Fluid 8 (AA00601304, S671090312)
http://bglsi.com/bgproducts_Oklahoma...tion_Chart.pdf

Here's their product link: https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/trans...synthetic-atf/

Charge will be $375 without replacing pan and filter. To include pan and filter would be over $900.

I'm going to talk to them about some kind of warranty.
