Default 2006 Stype Sport Jaguar Hood Emblem Wire Rusted Apart :O(

Good afternoon everyone. Ok....so today - roads are clear, dry...and I thought...gonna take my car for a wash and clean her up! Get home...start to polish the lights...then I start to polish the Jaguar Cat...all I did was move it left to right...and it felt really loose...them BAM....it fell off!! I hope there is an easy fix to this....
I have attached photos...and all I could see is that the wire rusted itself in half causing my CAT to fall off! I guess I am lucky it didn't just fall off on the highway...or something....

Thank you once again for all the help here....much appreciated!!

Mine did the same thing last summer, I also felt fortunate that it came off in my hand and not hurtling through the windshield while at highway speed. It seems that the OEM wire is not corrosion resistant, a silly oversight on their part.

I used stainless steel braided picture wire and aluminum (yes, I know galvanic action) sleeves crushed tight with pliers. All found at the local hardware. The only fiddly bit was holding the wire tight to compress the spring while crushing the sleeve. An extra hand came in handy, SWMBOs were well suited. Just for belts and suspenders/braces I put a second, slightly looser loop of wire just incase the first ever comes loose.

Very resourceful! Looks like you might have lost the cup like thingy that fits at the lower end of the spring. Might be in the engine bay or sitting on the driveway.

Hello! That cup thingy you are talking about....isn't that the thing in my first post which is around the wire? I took off the paper clip....Didn't feel safe with it....
What a pain....I can't seem to figure this thing out....would the dealer sell something to fix this cheap? With my luck the whole thing has to be ordered...
Any other ideas to fix this?

I think you just found why they stopped fitting them over here! Rust used to be #1 car killer I guess.

Hah! Good try John, but I think the answer is more legally motivated.

No evidence that's true and no law to stop them being fitted.

Maybe a law was mooted but not brought in, though I see no signs of that.

The endless damage caused by vandals to the cars where people have fitted leapers makes depressing reading on the UK forums.

Your paper clip deal seemed to be fine.

If you don't feel safe, how about two paper clips?

Or, a paper clip and a backup made from fishing line?

There has been some mention on the UK forums about a law barring fixed mounting hood emblems that did not have a flexible mounting. Maybe that has gotten misinterpreted.

Could well be.

Typical "health and safety gone mad" perhaps. Which generally isn't health and safety at all but some idiotic jobsworth with power and no responsibility or accountability.

Default Wired !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thieves swiped mine once and last time !!!! Bought a new one on e-bay and stainless steel wired it on. They'd have to rip my hood off to take it with them now. My only concern now is that out of frustration the scum will key my Jag
or worse!!

Good Luck!!!
