Default is alldata worth it?

just wondering if anybody uses alldata for their personal car, and if its worth it. i know that alot of shops use it, but they have to store ALOT of info about different vehicles. and also, if alldata is even understandable by a non-mechanic.

I am not a professional tech by any means, just a shade tree'.

I had purchsed a 5 year plan almost 4 years ago with www.alldatadiy.com I have used it for many, many repairs on my wifes '05 S Type without any problem. If you happen to take a look in the "How To's" here, you will see what I am typing about.

I have not used the JTIS that is here for FREE, I have seen images and descriptions from the FREE download here that look very similiar to alldatadiy. After my alldatadiy expires I will try the JTIS before extending the alldatadiy account.

If you are hell bent on alldatadiy they are a forum sponser and have a discount code floating around this site somewhere.

I agree with what Rick says, I have both the Alldata and JTIS and there's not much to choose between them but JTIS is free! (But a bit of a scutter to get set up)

Bought a $6 JTIS CD off ebay back in June 2009. Well worth it. Only covers up to the 2004 models, but that's been good enough for me thus far. Bear in mind that it can be cumbersome to use and is not as intuitive or well-organized as I would like. But for six bucks (or as a free download here), hard to argue with its value to the typical DIY guy....

alldatadiy goes to current MY (Model Year) just FYI

Post up the issues in a new thread. Besure to add vehicle details to your signature ie.. year, engine etc... really easy to do, go to "UserCP" upper left hand corner of any site page, click "Edit Signature" add details click "Save" poof bobs your uncle!

I-jag, I have responded to your other post about the throttle body within the first couple of posts, and have read a few after that (actually all of them). I cannot remember what engine you are inquiring about, it would be really easy to just have the vehicle info in your signature in every post that you make (see post # 7 above).

Now in response to if alldatadiy will give you the miracle answer about your TB quite simply NO it will not.

I have my suspicions about your TB post. If you really want to know what I believe, is that you need to replace the TB. I am not a Jaguar Tech and do not claim to be one. I am familiar with our engines through trial and error and ALOT of help of this forum.

There have been alot of threads where water intrusion have trashed the TB sad but true, and it had scared the crap out of me with some of the stories here back almost 4 years ago when Joyce and I purchased our 2005 3.0.

Although I do not generally do my own repairs- I use alldatadiy to let me know what (expense) to expect when getting it repaired and also if my garage is on the right track. Just my 2 cents

I have both the JTIS and the Alldata DIY susbscription. We have 2001 XJ8 and the Alldata information covering general descriptions, operations, and repairs is the same as the JTIS (it probably was copied from the JTIS at some point in time).

There are also a lot of JTIS based PDF files for sale on the internet (jagdocs.com - Ebay).

The Alldata subscription does give some more information for certain issues (part numbers, parts retail prices, shop hours), although not for all issues.

Every time I cannot find any TSB or repair on the Alldata, my emails to Alldata have produced no help from their support team and their email replies reflect their lack of support for missing information.

The best information and support comes from forums - especially from this Jaguar forum.
