Default Alternator Amp Requirement

I just bought a used 2006 S-Type VDP, 4.2. with a 100,000 miles. I'm in the process of changing hoses, belt, water pump, alternator, etc. I have the alternator out it appears to be the original one but I can't find any technical information on it. It appears my choices are a rebuilt 140 amp or a new 130 amp. I would prefer going new as it wasn't much fun getting it out so I am wondering if a 130 amp is enough power? Thanks.

10 amps should not be a big deal.....i would get a genuine jaguar one because they work all the smart charging systems perfect ....new is pricey, but, you know it is right....there is a battery light that can remain on if you use aftermarket or even sometimes a jaguar rebuild....and like you found out, they are a b...h to change.....i did mine on my 06 str....i swear they built the car around it....if Karl chimes in he can explain the battery light condition better

You can also take the alternator to an automotive electrical specialist for an overhaul. Then there's no issue with it fitting correctly or having the charge warning lamp constantly on.

A new one is pricey. I wonder why, the label say it's a Denso, which apparently is Nippondenso now. Getting the same one rebuilt sounds like a plan although I was hoping to get one in before I forget how I got it out. Thank you, you have made life much easier.

In case you don't already have the X202 Workshop Manual, here's a link:

The procedure for removing and installing the alternator is in section 414, page 2789.

It was an experience I hope to forget soon. I had all the front hoses out to change those and the heater valve and was contemplating trying to bring it out that way but I was having a difficult time trying to figure out how the alternator 3 wire connector came unlatched as I couldn't really see it. So, I eventually had to lift the engine to get the motor mount out to unlatch the connector. I didn't do anything with the steering but putting it back in I do believe I'll take the power wire off of the starter as that was the biggest obstacle for me to guiding it out.
