another climate control thread
Its been fairly warm the last couple of days here. Yesterday, I decided to drive the jag to work. Early morning running the AC on a cold engine produced very cold air. Nice. A few hours later I break for lunch and decide to take the car out. AC on warm engine producing very wam air. Not nice.
So I get the car home and throw it up on my lift to have a look at the compressor. I check for leaks and then see if it needs any 134a. It doesn't. With the engine running and the AC on ful blast, the compressor doesn't even appear to be cycling. Baffled and thinking I have a bad compressor, I call it night and decide to let my mechanic have a crack at it.
THis afternoon I pull it down from the lift, and start it to leave it outside so he can come and get it. Now the AC is blowing ice cold again. WTF?
I drive it around for a bit. Park it for a about an hour. Go to restart and presto it's vblowing hot air again. I do not think it's the DCCV but wanted to see if anyone else had or knew of this problem.
TIA

Could be any of the sensors, such as the ext temp one (an easy one to check as its value is on the panel),
When it's faulty again, check the LCD panel. If ext temp is OK, cycle climate from HI to LO and back a couple of times, hoping that if it's the DCCV it'll free up.

Thanks. I actually tried the cycling Hi to Lo technique. I forgot to mention that. It did seem that when it was cycled to Hi the temp actually seemed a tiny bit cooler. Lo was still stupid hot. I did this probably 3 times before giving up and turning it off.
The value of the temp sensor seemed to be in line with the exterior temp.

I just wanted cold air so I grounded the 1st and 3rd wires to the heater solenoids till I can troubleshoot. The air is ice cold now. Started the day cutting off the oxidized low valve above the core thread and soldered a schraeder valve to the core threads, then put a R-134a adapter on. The steel was too far gone to hold a hose fitting.
Haven't had alot of time to follow up with this. I replaced the sensor behind the glovebox. (I think in an 01 there is only the one sensor back there?) I put in a new DCCV and replaced the ambient air temp sensor in the dash since it was a cheap part. I even had the RCCM out to inspect. It looked fine with no obvious signs of heat damage or burned solder points. At this point I'm think either compressor or pressure valve. I did try to add 134a but the compressor didn't act like it was cycling on to pull in any charge.
