Another oil thread. Valvoline?
I have been looking around and searching, but can't find an answer to my specific question. I called a shop today asking about a price for an oil change. An actual repair shop, not some oil change place from a big chain. They can do Valvoline full synthetic for $88, or Castrol Euro oil for $157. Wouldn't the Valvoline be just fine? I'll freely admit I'm embarrassed to ask this, but here goes anyway. When I search here on Valvoline it seems like everything's about ATF, not engine oil. BTW, the car is a 2003 STR.
I use Castrol 10-40 Costs less than $50 including a new filter at Autozone $157 is a total rip off, Valvoline is good as well, I run Valvoline DINO oil(real oil" in my pre 82 BMW as that engine likes a high Zinc,ZDDP, content

I use mobile one, here in the states or on amazon its fairly inexpensive and exceeds jag specs. I change ever 3500 miles. And i have 276k miles never been in the motor not even once and runs like a new one. Did a compression test about a year ago and was still right where it should be. Never uses a drop between changes. Btw 5w 30. Only !

Mobil One protects the engine much more than standard oil, I believe. That's why they developed it in the first place. Years ago the upper radiator hose in my car decided to pop off and the car lost 2/3 of the coolant and got hot. The temp gauge didn't go up to the top because it had no coolant in there to measure and the cabin and hood are so insulated I didn't see or smell anything. It did not hurt anything with the motor! I had everything checked out too. The Mobil One oil along with the engineering and thin metal head gasket saved it.
