Hi All,
I am looking at a 2005-2008 S-Types and am curious if there are any issues will putting in a Sony Model:XAVAX1000SKU Apple CarPlay stereo in it. None of the cars I've looked at have Alpine on the door (Apparently Crutchfield finds this important), Has anyone had any trouble with a similar system or is it a straight forward installation for most car stereo places?
If the car already has the factory fitted navigation, replacement is difficult because the climate control functions and some setup menus are only available from the touchscreen.
It appears to be much easier to replace the head unit on a car without navigation and without premium sound ?
As mentioned above fitting an aftermarket head unit is only a relistic option in S-type cars without the sat nav screen.
If it has a screen then the climate control goes through the screen, the wireing is not the same so removing it is an issue.
In addition in the unlikly event that the car has no screen but is fitted with the Alpine speakers and the amp in the boot/trunk these cars use another set of speaker wires and connectors in the doors.
It is not the end as the original wires from the head unit and the door speaker connectors are still fitted and can be used if you change the speakers.
I recently installed the jagdroid upgraide. It keeps all the fuctions and looks/styling of the old unit and on top of that you get fully functioning android unit with GPS, bluetooth, spotify, youtube, gmail, ect.
Ben has instructions to do the upgraide yourself or you can send it the unit to him.
Also makes for a nice party trick when 20yr old car has nicer infosystem than some modern cars.

Yes Jagdroid works well in cars that have the NAV screen. Not so sure about cars without, and the poster above has stated that all the cars he has looked at do not have the NAV screen.

Sorry i belive OP was refering to the Alpine premium saund system that need a digital output (or different type of signal) from the head unit but cars he looked at need analog output. Jagroid does need the NAV built in for it to work but OP didnt specify that.
As it turns out, I'm going to need the Jagdroid! I was looking at non-Nav unts but a car came up with super low miles in Seafrost, which is one of my favorite colors so I jumped on it and worked out a trade for my car. The car I swapped was an MR2 Spyder and it's dollar for dollar the most fun car I ever owned. There is something about the high reving engine sitting right behind your head urging you to break the speed limit combined with go kart like handling that is just a riot. (Sadly, I need two new knees and a shoulder surgery so an automatic will suit me better in the long run.) Its loud and its has no luxury. The ride home was, as you guys know, completely different. SOOOO freaking comfortable and quiet! I'm not used to sitting in a sea of leather and burl wood, About the only luxury missing (other than an up to date info sysem) was the car opening a secret panel in the dash and offering me a fresh espresso!
Glad you like it!!
I agree very different to an MR2 Spyder!!
What year is that car? If you look at the VIN number the 10th digit will give you the model year of your car.
It is a good idea to include the partial vin number as part of your forum signature as this will help us all answer any questions you have.
See my one below to see what I am on about.
For its time the S-type did have some advanced features, especialy if you went for some of the options.
For example you could have full voice control of the audio, climate control, navigation and phone systems.
There was an option to add, USB drive and ipod audio as well as 'audio in' function. But these audio conectivity units are very hard to find now!
There was also adaptive cruse control, but that can be a bit of a pain at times!
However if you have the nav screen and you want intergrated modern system then I agree Jagdroid is the way to go.
A nice looking car. Even nicer if it has the V8.
Looking at he mirrors and the grill it appears to be an x200.
The S Type looks good in the 'Seafrost' colour.
Don't think the aftermarket Jagdroid would work on the x200 Sat Nav.

it is a V8. Now I need some throatier pipes and the Mina Gallery cold air intake for sound. 😀. I’m going to reach out to them to find out what will work. I have an FM Transmitter in there is the mean time but I’d love their Apple version if it will work
Please do let us know your partial vin number so we can know what model year and version of S-type you have.
We do not need the whole thing just the 10th to the 13th digit will be fine. See the first line in my signature below for an example.
This will give us the model year, the engine version and aprox. vin number, this will make it a lot easier for us to help you.
