Auto-dimming mirror and rain-sensing intermittent wipers problem
Hi everyone,
I?m trying to diagnose what may be a linked issue on my 2007 Jaguar S-Type 2.7D Executive.
Both the interior auto-dimming mirror and the rain-sensing intermittent wipers seem not to work.
Symptoms:
- the rear-view mirror does not auto-dim
- the green LED on the mirror is off
- the exterior mirrors also seem not to auto-dim
- the rain sensor / auto wiper function does not work either
What makes me wonder whether the two faults are related is that, according to the electrical guide:
- the electrochromic rear-view mirror uses connector RF5
- the rain sensing unit uses connector RF14
- both are located in the same general area around the rear-view mirror / windshield centre
- and both appear to share ground point CA116 (behind rear seat back, RH side)
So I?m wondering whether this could be a common ground or harness issue rather than two separate failures.
I had first considered fuse F16, but that seems unlikely because the heated seats are working normally, and they are on the same fuse feed.
At this stage I?m trying to work out the most logical diagnosis path:
- check power and ground at the mirror area first?
- inspect the common ground at CA116?
- suspect the interior mirror itself as the ?master? for the electrochromic system?
- or are the rain sensor and auto-dimming mirror usually unrelated in practice despite their proximity and shared ground?
Has anyone seen this combination of faults before on an S-Type?
Any advice on the most sensible place to start would be appreciated. I?d rather diagnose it properly than start pulling visible trim apart for no reason.
Thanks in advance.
