Firstly welcome to the Forum.
When time permits please do an Intro in the New Members Area.
The Ford 5R55N is a strong box, BUT, it needs fresh fluid every 2 years or so, and at the very least at 50K miles (80K kms).
I would firstly check the fluid level, and even drain it and refill with fresh, you just might be LOW on fluid, and it is almost certainly STALE by now.
The D to R is odd at best, and I have NO answers for that.
Fluid is always the #1 on transmissions having a hissy moment.
LOTS of info in the "stickies" at the top of this section, even a fluid drain and refill I wrote a long time back.
