Question Backup Camera

Hi guys,

I'm working with a company on trying to figure out Apple CarPlay (they have an amazing solution for older model Land Rovers). They need a video feed, which they can pull from the backup camera (since there is no video output in our stereos). I was reading my owners manual and there is no mention of a backup camera (mine doesn't have one). Was it an option in 2005 MY? I have the Nav system with the CD changer in the trunk. Is there some sort of video feed (I hope I'm using the right term) back there?

Jose

No rear camera was sold for the S-type.
However the RGB + sync signal for the touch screen comes from the NAV DVD unit in the boot/trunk. It is a ntsc format signal and with a simple relay box and a composite video to RGB converter a rear view camrea can be set up in an s-type.
However the screen can be a bit dark.

In the search bar type in jaguar, then backup camera systems, then click on customize and upgrade......you will see choices for model and year, then you will see choices for equipment..... I don't know anything about this stuff, so i emailed them my car info and what i wanted and they emailed me back a package.....the told me for sure it displays through the touchscreen

How weird. I tried Jaguar but just got irrelevant models (and they have very different electronics). I wonder if they lose business because they make it so much less than obvious.

Thanks for the info Joe! I have been chatting with the gentleman (he hasn't said his name) at JagDroid. He's SUPER NICE and has answered all my questions. The thing with JagDroid is that it will not support Siri or iMessage. I'm on iPhone and have Carplay in my RR. I use those two all the time.

Hi guys,

I sent Mellow's answer to the company I'm working with for Apple Carplay. They are excited about the prospect and asked that I pose this follow up info:

You need to find out the pin map for RGB + Sync wiring from your audio display. Then you can bypass the wiring with our patch harness to have Apple CarPlay on the display.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Jose

I think that the radar beeper is much better than a grainy back up camera. the camera won't tell you when you're going to hit something. But at least you can watch TV.
