Car takes about 40 mins to shut down. Then it should be a few tens of mA. Less than 100mA (0.1A).

As JagV8 says that's 700 mA - far too much if you waited for it to go to sleep.
You need to lock the car (with your clamp on the boot switch of course).

My '01 did this (drove me bonkers). Then I read on here from a guy working at a jag dealership said try changing out the back half of the ignition switch,(he said it goes bad so often they don't even troubleshoot anymore, just change the electronic part of the switch).
I did and voila, my battery nightmare disapeared. I tried everthing (the 2 wires in the trunk, everything and spent big $$$). No mas problemas senor!

I have this problem.

The ignition switch, if left in position to allow radio to work, will shut down radio, possibly indicating a good sleep switchover.

Interior lights shut off after 30 seconds or so.

Trunk light isn't working.

Will check on jimgoose's trailer connector. No moisture in trunk though.

I checked visor vanity mirror lights, defrosters, radio, headlight switch.

Temporarily I am running with a second battery and well-secured jumper cables connected all the time, carefree so far, extending time between random batt rundown. Anybody want to warn me on that, as far as no fancy electronic switchover there?

Hi,

If you have not solved the problem put a Battery Buddy on the battery. It shuts the battery off at a preset voltage so that you don't start your morning with a dead battery. There is even a wireless remote to reset from inside your car. This is not a cure of course.

My high school daughter was always leaving a light on or something and it put one of these devices on her car and it worked like a champ
