Default battery drain on 2001 Jaguar S-type

I am having a constant battery drain on my 2001 Jaguar S-type. Can someone please help me out?

Do a search for "battery drain" there are many threads on the subject. It could be from any number of things.

Welcome to the forum tadeorija,

Simplest thing first. Are you locking the vehicle and arming the alarm system when you park? This puts systems into 'sleep' mode with consequential minimal battery drain.

The ignition switch is where I would start. Your MY is prone to having this problem.

Ditto to Rick on the ignition switch...do the courtesy lights function properly? Check that all sleep following removal of ignition key.

Thanks guys, I believe the drain has got something to do with the cooling fan that still runs even after the engine has been switched off.

That's odd, especially for UK. Which fan? Bear in mind if ignition switch is iffy then all sorts of things will go on running, some indefinitely.

+1 on Search for others as very very lengthy and detailed help is there.

Another "vote" to change the switch. Known issue. Actually, during very hot weather the engine cooling fan will run for a little bit after shutting off. Mine used to. But like GGG said, locking the car should put it to sleep right away and shut stuff off. My car sat in my garage unlocked and sometimes would take 45 minutes to an hour to go into sleep mode..but it did.

Sold off the car in 2011 with it's original battery still working just fine.... LOL

The cooling fan running for a few minutes after shut off will NOT affect battery performance as you described. +1 to the advice above regarding the ignition switch. Also, ensure your connections to the battery are clean and tight.

I had this problem with my 03 S type so I started switching off the auto wipers, lights, the radio, and the ac every time before I switched off the ignition. No more problems. Not sure what was causing it, but turning everything off was a cheap fix.

Be sure the thermostat is not stuck as this will cause the radiator cooling fan to run after the ignition is shut off. Also check to see if the coolant level is correct in the expansion tank when the engine is cold.
