Default Nav screen black

The nav screen stays black on start up every once in a while on my 06 STR. Usually on restart it comes back on. Doesn't happen a lot just from time to time. Anyone know what the cause is?

Sounds like a bad connection (electrical or optical).

That has happened to me maybe 2 or 3 times. Restarting the car gets the screen to boot up. Unless it starts happening with more regularity, I'm chalking mine up to just a glitch. I've taken the unit out and checked all the connectors/reconnected. Didn't find anything lose, but I suppose there could be something I missed back there.

Kind of suspicious that we have 2006 STR's doing this? Wonder if it's software related rather than hardware??

Default The darn thing just likes being rebooted.

Mine just did this for the first time this morning.
I disconnected the battery and everything is fine again.

Given the number of times I've had to disconnect the battery on this car to either reset the car for something like this or other issues I've decided it's time for a quick disconnect switch on mine.

This has to be the single most valuable service tool/method I've found so far with this car.

Mine had the same issue before I reflashed it. It did it 3 times in a year and a half. Since I went with a 09-10 disc, it hasn't done it again.

This also happened to our 06 STR when we first got it for about a year.
The blue Tooth phone also would not work at the same time.

There is a TSB on this problem. Can't remember the number but it is in the stickies.

Ours was outside the VIN range but the dealer did it anyways and corrected the problem.

IIRC after reading the TSB I believe that it tells you how to access the current version on your unit just to see if you have the old software or the newer software.
Give it a look.

My 2005 STR with the 2011 maps has never done that. Maybe the software version is the problem?

Mine has done this once in the 2.5 years I have owned it. If gets to be repetitious then I'll look into it. For now a battery cut-off sounds great. That lets my car forget all of that horrible around town driving, it's like an instant tune-up!

I've just come to expect a few electronic gremlins with this car.

I had a couple in a 90s Q45 but far less than this.

My 2001 Ford wagon occasionally misbehaves as well and I just slap it around a bit and everything is fine again! Come to think of it I just got doing the same exact thing to my DVD player in the Jag when it wouldn't release the magazine. Must be a Ford thing ...
