Default Battery Life?

How long does the batteries usually last in these cars? I'm not having any issues or anything, but my 2006 STR still has it's original battery that's over 8 years old. The Air Force has taught me to perform preventative maintenance, but these batteries are expensive and I don't like spending money when I don't need to. But I also know these cars can act all kinds of crazy when the battery starts going out.

I replaced mine after I bought the car last year. It is a 2003 and the battery was the original.

It varies greatly.

A car that is used daily, and does "decent" distances each time its started, will have greater life than the car that is used "sometimes", and/or driven very short distances.

My X300 battery is 6 years old, and died yesterday. Was the DD until Nov 2013, when Black beast was purchased.

The Silver S has a NEW battery, the old one was date coded at 5 1/2 years. The car, being hers, is used sometimes. It has a battery minder for when it sits, but I reckon the battery in it did good.

The Black S has a 4 year old battery. It is the DD now, and does about 100kms per day, every day.

I got into a habit back in the '60's, of charging the car battery every month. I still do that today. I simply plug em in and let em charge.

Then comes the spin that abounds about what is the best brand, best specs, Calcium, versus Platinum, blah, blah, blah. I know a battery is only as good as the charging device (alternator in our cases) looking after it.

Since moving the batteries OUT of the engine bay, their life has increased greatly.

My S-Type was built in May 2005, exactly 9 years ago this month. I've owned it since December 2008. The car is still running strong on its factory battery at 82,600 miles. I check the water level in the cells at least every couple of months and top up as necessary. I believe that is why my factory battery has lasted this long....

If you can check each cell in the battery, go to an auto parts store and get a hygrometer. That way you can check each cell and see how good it is. If you start getting weak cells, buy new battery.
I have a neighbor who has (I believe) a 2004 S-Type and he changes batteries every 3 years, he calls it preventative maintenance.

I just changed mine on our 06. I got a couple of DSC not available messages on the dash. This was after a few cold days and non use of the car for a week. When the car was back to daily use and the battery recharged the messages went away.

Being a long time member of this forum and knowing these symptoms I decided to change it before a failure at the wrong time and place.

I got the big H8 at Wally world and had it changed in 5 minutes, all for $119.00. not bad. I am sure this battery will last a few years and has at least a 3 year warranty and wally world is great with honoring their warranties.

BTW, I am NOT trying to start a battery debate. I bought what I wanted and it is good enough for my car. nuff said.

The original in mine lasted a miserable 3 years. The replacement is still going strong at 7 years.

Hi,
My S-Type build date was the 14th December 2004 and was first registered 1st January 2005. I bought it on the 16th October 2006 and at 82700 odd miles it still has its original Battery. So far so good.

Default Weak Battery Symptoms ??

I have 122K miles on my 05 with original battery still in it .....what are any symptoms of a potentially weak Battery that might show up as problems in other areas.
