After having owned both you should know that I traded my X-Type for an S-Type.

The S-Type is bigger and more robust than the X-Type. It is also more reliable since it doesn't have the trouble-prone AWD system of the X-Type.

I've heard the X-Type described as the cheapest Jaguar to buy and the most expensive to own. That's a little exaggerated but kind of reflects my experiences.

I really enjoyed my X-Type and think it is a super attractive looking car but the S-Type is a definite step up in class.

Either engine is fine, V8's will probably have more options since they were more expensive. But remember it is a front engine rear drive sedan so if you're most familiar with FWD cars that will make a difference. Likewise if you're looking for winter transportation the car is, again, front engine/rear drive...

Also, the S-Type is basically still in production in the XF so there is no difficulty with parts availability, etc. The X-Type, on the other hand, was always an orphan...

Oh, I often find myself missing my X-Type when I see one on the road, but then I remember why I "upgraded" to the S-Type.

The X-Type, on the other hand, was always an orphan...

Jaguar - it's not an automobile, it's a Motorcar

Thank you! I guess X type goes out.

Though. How about the engine of S type (i don't need a race car, it's more important that it would be fuel efficient and won't break down in a month), which year (i heard that models that are made earlier than 2004 has a lot of electricity problems)

If low fuel consumption and inexpensive repairs are important to you, I'd suggest looking at cars other than Jaguars.

S-types with a manual transmissions are not that common.

Many have said it's a pain of a manual, heavy clutch etc. I'd say don't.

Why would anyone say it's bad? It's quite hard and expensive, however, and if not done properly you will have a lot of troubles.

I know where it would be done properly, but I heard that lpg can damage the engine

Yes, if not done right. Do lots of research. Expect it to be expensive and run away if it isn't.

Very few people in North America bother with a conversion to lpg because gasoline here is inexpensive. Not worth the bother.
