Well, best is going to be the proper fluid. OK and cheaper... quite possibly the Miller stuff. (Which the US probably don't get.)

Really a LOT of threads on this.
Some searching will find many hits.

Many fluids have been mentioned. I stick with the ZF fluid since I can now get it for about $16/liter. Still too high but you don't need but maybe 7-8L and it's not required very often.

Here is a big thread on fluid.

Thax very much for your advice. It seems much difference is on price and not perfomance, so going for the miller ATF could be saving a fortune. Thx

I was asking if you could tell us the actual difference in price, not suggesting that you change your mind about using it.

Hello sir, not really sure but the miller ATF was £33 per 5litres and two garages were quoting me £25 and £15 per litre respectively. So I was drawing my conclunsion based on figures. Thx

Given that the Miller fluid carries the appropriate spec and the large price advantage, I think I'd give it a try.

I've just bought that and used it on my S-type with the 6 speed. It removed the squawk and is working as it should.

6 litres required to follow the flush TSB so I have some left over
