Default cant refill fuel tank

hello cant find a similar thread. so hope someone can throw light on this.
S type year 2000 v6 3.0 auto petrol.
stood the car down to do a full over hall bearings, suspension, brakes and such like. did a gearbox oil change and full service. all fine. only problem since reconnecting battery I have to fill the tank very slowly or the pump auto shut off occurs. taking about 1/2 hr to fill the tank. runs beautiful when filled so a bit confused. car was stood for about three months and did put a galloon in via a mobile gallon fuel holder at home. did also change the fuel filter during full overhaul.
Am considering depressurising tank but not sure any ideas. thanks in advance..

Have you tried using the pumps at different gas stations? I have encountered finicky pumps before, and a different pump worked normally....

The tank is not under pressure so not sure what you want to do?

Thanks for replies.
Yes I found the thread that suggested using other refuelling stations and have tried this.
It still takes an age to refuel. and the 1/2 hour to fill drives me potty so Ive researched the purge valve and thinknkg bwst to depressurise and take a look at this valve.
any tips would be greatly appreciated.

once you have taken the petrol cap of the tank there is no way that it is a sealed system or under any form of pressure at the filler cap. Have you looked to see if the butterfly valve is for rotating correctly letting the petrol stations pump in so there is no back pressure causing the pump to cut out due to too much petrol going into a reduced area.

Are you trying to fill to the absolute top of the filler?
Are you saying that bowser cuts off as soon as you try to fill up?
Try moving the nossle out a bit when you try to fill it.

hello
I hope all are well.
I have tried all of the above over a sustained period of time and nothing seems to improve the situation. I have now pushed a flexible pipe cleaner down into fuel pipe. the first thing it pushes is a small flap just inside which moves easily, but as the flexi pipe moves down it encounters another flap which is stiff and only opens with a moderate amount of force.
Is this the butterfly cap mentioned?
any advice to loosen up would be appreciated?
Finally would I be better off replacing the whole fuel filler pipe?

I only know about the top buttery fly valve. I would use one of these devices to have a look at what is in the fuel pipe.

Anything that comes to mind I should look out for Ducmon?

Default Me too

I am on my 2nd S-Type. 1st was 2006 and this one is 2005, both 4.2 L N/A. The old one never had the problem, but it happens every time with my current one. It was doing it when I bought it, so I cannot pinpoint any recent event that may have caused it.

I have one of these and the light on the end gets pretty hot, so I would not put it in the tank.
