Default Car will not crank

I have a 2001 Jaguar S-Type 3.0. My problem is my car will not crank, it has power. I have tried jumping it; I have replaced the battery and everything. The little red light on the dash stays red when I am trying to crank it so I do not think it’s an alarm problem. When I turn the key to the start position I only here a clicking sound below the glove box, at the fuse box. I have already switched all the fuses inside the fuse box. The strange part is the car was running just fine about 12 hours earlier. When I get up to go to work the next day, it will not do anything. All the gauges work, the lights and wipers come on normal, but it just will not start. Any help is greatly appreciated

Beware of jumping it.

Make sure battery leads are corrosion free and that includes the earth strap where it fastens to the body.

It could be the inertia switch (see handbook for full details of how to reset) in the end of the dash.

I'm not sure if it could be the engine run relay or the diode. Try the inertia switch first...

+1 on JagV8 - to add, could be your starter - the soleniod on the starter could be locked - try tapping on the starter with a hammer by the solenoid plunger area - could also be the relay to the starter - (check handbook for location)

I tried the inertia switch to make sure it's pushed in and I checked the voltage and they seem to be good

I checked the starter relay and fuse which is number 1 in the passenger compartment and number 21 in the engine bay. My next step will be to tap on the starter

In my car it is R20 in the engine compartment fuse box---maybe it is analogous to the 20 in your car
