Center Console locked

Center Console locked
I can't open the center console. No idea what happened. One day it just would not longer open. Finally from frustration I opened it with brute force. Once closed it is locked again. I noted there are two tabs, one on each side. Thinking I could once again use force and then perhaps tape the tabs down?
Any other ideas to fix?

I have the same problem with mine. Instead of brute force you can take out the cup holder and use a long screwdriver to pry open the tabs. I used a wire cutter to trim down the tabs so it will stay close and still open when I pull up. Be careful now to trim too much of the tabs off because it won't stay closed. Another option would be buying a new lid.

I had the same problem, when i bought my jag the lid wouldent open. Its actually much easier to simply push it to the side then up that way your no putting so much stress on those tabs.
Anyways i was able to fix mine. The lever that is on the lid has 2 cable attached to it. When you pull the lever half way one of the cables is engaged and the lid can be pulled forwards and back, pulling the lever even more engages the second cable which allows you to open the lid. If you can move the lid forwards and back but not open it then either the cable snapped somewhere inside the lid or most likely the cable became detached from the lver. If so you will be able to pull the lever down (rather then up) and expose the area where the cable meets the lever, the plastic that holds the cable there is likely broken. This part is tricky, you will need to (with pliers) pull the cable that broke off forwards and glue it down to where its supposed to be attached. I used gorilla glue(but just a bit, that stuff expands). In order for there to be time for the glue to dry properly you will need to hold the cable in the extended position for at least 2 hours. This can be done with a pair of pliers that lock into closed position. Thats how i fixed mine, hope it helps.
This is not an easy fix and i actually spent an hour or more fiddling with it before i finally found the solution. Being that the only color lid i could find on the net was either beige or grey, replacing it wasent an option for me.

I had this happen. Use a screw driver an push one tab in. The tabs are on each side about 3" in from the front. Once open take the screws out of the actual "lever" "chrome handle" or what ever you call the thing that opens the center console lid. You will see two cables, one of which will be loose because the keeper which holds the pin on the end of the cable is broken. I saw no way to fix the broken plastic so what I did is place the end of the cable which opens the lid into the keeper for the cable which allows the lid to slide over the drink holders. This works as long as you have no need to slide the lid forward. Don R
