Just picked up this car Monday and we were trying to figure why the
center console cover will slide back to expose the drink holders, but
that is far as it goes. It won`t lift up it says it should in the handbook.
Afraid we will break it by forcing it to hard. Anyone else had a problem
with their center console not opening ?

 

You still must operate the tab to release the lid so it can swing open.

Have you done that? So it does not just lift up. Now I have a 2005 but I think it's the same as your 2003.

+1, mine is 2004 but yes use the tab

 

Thanks, but after searching these forums I found a fix that was not mentioned. I did
get it open and I took the redneck approach to fixing it. Turns out the cable release
for the lift is broken so I slid it upright and took some electrical tape and taped over
the tabs that were not working. Don`t need them anyways. Now it opens and closes
no issue.

Jim I am in the same boat, console slides back but its stuck close even with using the latch and force. Ive just never been able to open it. Where is this thead about the issue or hidden location of this cable in the latch or console?
