Default Classic Failsafe TB

Hi team,

I have the classic fail safe issue on my 1999 S Type 3.0. I have done some reading and have done the following: fixed the leak in the boot; and clean the TB sensor. Next I will take the plastic covering off under the windshield and pop some sealant in there. I don't have access to a code reader. I think my battery is on the way out so that will be the next thing to replace as well.

My question is: WHAT is actually the TB sensor?? Is it the black cellphone sized attached to the TB (red circle) or is it the large metal unit on the other side (blue circle)?

You are shooting in the dark with no code reader .
Get one and save yourself some time and money !
in the red circle is a TPS throttle position sensor .

+1 on that. Even a cheap $20 code reader would provide a big clue. Many auto parts stores will read codes for free if you prefer. If you go that route, make sure to get the exact 5-digit code, such as P1584. The poor guy might just tell you the generic definition displayed on this machine, such as "Defragulator bio-feedback loop open", when what you really need is the Jaguar-specific alphanumeric code. Get that info for us, and we can help with the next steps.

+2. BTW, the last thing you want is a P1584. That one is an internal (to the TB assembly) circuit failure that means replacing or repairing the TB. Please read the threads on recommendations for Jaguar-specific code readers that'll help you avoid chasing ghosts. Best $ you'll spend!
