Default Code readers

Regarding the code readers; does anyone know if a CODE SCANNER SUNPRO CP9080 SENSOR TESTER PLUS will work on 2001 S-Type?

Thanks.

Go to their website and they should list all makes and model that it will work with. Jag is particular so make sure your vehicle is on it.

Personally i don't see why it wouldn't, but check!

I just have a small, recurring, problem. every now and again the check engine light comes on, stays on for a few days and then goes off. I can't pin point it to rain or gassing up. No loss of performance, she still drives beautifully. Thought the best way was to get hold of a code reader and see what she is trying to tell me and fix it

Well, if your looking for general engine and emission codes, see if your local Pep Boys, Autozone, O'Reily's will read it for you at no charge. They keep a general code reader on hand for yahoos like us. My Autozone's reader wouldn't communicate with my car, for some reason. I think it was user error...he was operating it.

If you want more enhanced codes, you'll have to go elsewhere and pay upwards of $500 for one. i got a software based program for my own use. I can't recall if transmission codes are general or enhanced.

Matt,
Where did you get the software based program from. That is more my style.

Can you define enhanced codes for me? I thought all codes were the same you just have to look up each meaning.

Finally bought the AutoEnginuity and what a wonderful product.

Alas my codes are
P0153, O2 sensor circuit slow response; Bank 2 sensor 1
p0171 System too lean, bank 1
p0174 System too lean, Bank 2

OK so what does this lot mean, what do I change and where is it located?

Sorry for being ignorant like this but how else can one learn if not from ones peers.

gb, if you haven't done so already, start up a new post with your codes and your data page. you'll get more help that way i think. good luck.

Means your 02 sensor isn't switching as fast as it should, you need a new one.

its your forward most 02 sensor, since both of your banks are reading lean, i would replace both front 02's. they look like spark plugs with wires on them, and they're on your exhaust manifold just after all the primaries.

depending how bad the 02 is your car will get worse mileage, when they go the car reverts to running very rich and can cause a bad/choppy idle. if left unchecked for long enough it will foul the catalytic converter.

an FYI, its says lean bank because it THINKS they are lean (02 sensor measures lean/rich) so it adds as much gas as it can to compensate for what it thinks is a lean condition, so your car is actually running very rich.

disconnect your battery while changing the 02 sensors. this will allow the car to reset its fuel trims after the 02 sensors are working. if you dont reset them, it will just take longer and the car may run a little rough untill they are re-learned (usually around 50 miles)

Just make sure you get a front 02 sensor, with an OE plug (some dont have a plug and you have to cut your old plug off and splice it on the new sensor)

here is one for example
