Default completely clueless

bought a 2000 s type jag my boyfriend said he wanted to drive it to make sure all is well.. after 1 week he informed me I have to get a new radiator hose.. problem is I know nothing at all about cars and he is telling me I need a radiator hose for a CT1. I have done lots of research but all the hoses I show him are not the right ones.. he took off the original hose and his dad took it home and has misplaced it so I cannot look at that for an example. I tried to look at the cereal numbers on the motor but they are rubbed off and I cannot read them.

there are only two radiator hoses on any given car . may be a photo of were it used to be would help identify it .

Layla,

Firstly, welcome to teh Dorums.

When time permits, please do an Intro in the New Members Area.

You are not mentioning a V6 or a V8.

The V6 Top radiator hose on the early cars is well known to crack at the plastic bleed fitting.

Once we know more, we can provide you with a part number, which will make replacement an easy exercise.

Re: The lost radiator hose - Have you also considered getting a new boyfriend? The hose should be easy enough to sort out if you can post a picture and let us know which engine you have.

Get a new boyfriend. He should have replaced the hose for you.

OOPS,

Typing in here and talking V12 with my Son, proves "multi tasking", is simple NOT for me.

Now, a V12 S Type, would have had me not making that huge blunder.

Question

Okay so here's where I'm at, after looking through Manuel's and hours of sifting through the internet I thought it was for sure the upper radiator hose!I found the original hose but the part number is faded off. However, my boyfriend said that's not what I need. So once again I am lost! My car is a 2000 type s Jag supercharged with a v8.. I'm really starting to kick myself for buying it though cause I know nothing about cars!

Hold on. The 2000 S-Type did not have a supercharger. Explain...

Is he mechanically inclined? If so why would he allow you to scour the internet for hours looking at the wrong engines.

AS jagV8 mentioned, no supercharged 2000 SType.
Why kick yourself, problems occur on any vehicle that is 17 years old.

Once you find out what engine you have. I suggest you take a picture of your VIN number (lower left hand corner of windshield (windscreen), you will need it. Call SNG Barrett and talk with one of the very knowledgeable guys, I am sure he could walk you through what you need.

Incidentally, I have been wrenching on cars for 45 years, the S Type is right at the top of the list as far easiest to work on.
