Default cylinder numbering 2003 4.2 nat asprated

well i think i have another coil out but i cant remember how the cylinders are numbered? can anyone help? this is a left hand drive car for the united states. thanks for any help. code is p0304 cylinder 4 misfire.

It will be 2nd cylinder back from front of engine on Drivers side of vehicle.

thanks.....i've noticed that 2003 had a split year.....anything previous to MY in the vin had a different numbering system, which would put cyl 4 next to the firewall on passenger side (US). now i'm wondering which letters to look at in the vin, mine last is HM62112 for the last 7 of vin which i'm guessing is prior to MY

All the 4.2's in the NAS ( USA & Canada ) market are numbered as the picture I posted.
The 2002.5 is there because new models always come out before the actual year classified.


Your build date was June 2002, but warranty didn't start till August, which would make it a 2003 anyway.

okay, so the HU in the vin is before or after the MY? I was referring to a chart under Jaguar letterhead that was posted here in the forum, where it showed the alternate numbering table for 2003 prior to MY in the vin.

The firing order was labeled differently on 4.2 vs 4.0

You have a 4.2, therefore it's a 2002.5MY, the firing order is in post #2 of this thread.

+1 it uses the standard (ISO/SAE) numbering.
