Default Daytime Running Lights (wiring issue)

I am in the process of installing daylight running lights to my 2003 S Type and have came against a little snag. The wiring diagram states that the + & - have to be connected directly to the battery, this is a problem as the battery is in the boot. So I was wondering if anyone has any Idea where I can connect the + & - at the front of the car. Please note that I initially tried connecting the + to a live feed and the - to the bodywork, however this did not work.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Don't fit the lights. You're not a chav, right? And not in an empty country in the far north where it's a bit of a surprise to see another car.

Or cover up the sensor so the car always thinks it's dark. Simple solution.

I think a main dealer can reprogram the car to activate the factory DLR function rather than adding more lights to the car.

Pretty sure the dealer can turn it on because my 2003 has daytime running lights.
