Do I need my center brace?
I currently drive a 2003 S-Type R. I hear the piping banging (rarely but still bothersome) on the small center brace that is bolted on by 4 bolts.
I looked at this brace and it looks flimsy. I was wondering if I could do away with this brace with no repercussion? And/or was wondering if there was anyone else who got rid of their center brace?
It's the one located close to the X-Pipe. Thank you!

Thanks for the reply!
I'm have no clue to be honest. All I know is that the exhaust piping is hitting that center brace....
To me that center brace doesnt seem to be doing much if anything at all for chassis stiffening. But I'm not a Jaguar engineer...

Is this a brace across the driveshaft tunnel? The Lincoln LS has a two-bolt bar/brace across the tunnel where the exhaust pipes come together after the transmission, so I'm not exactly sure what you have. I've assumed its just to catch the driveshaft (well, just exhaust, I guess, since the exhaust should catch the driveshaft) in the event one of them falls down while driving, rather than let them hit the ground and do major damage as they tear off their rear mounts and try to launch the rear of the car into the air.
In other words, it's probably the anti-pole-vaulting brace
Naturally, you're better off finding out why the exhaust is hanging low, rather than remove a part to put a bandaid on the problem. A mount could have rusted, a rubber loop could have rotted. You don't want your exhaust hitting the ground while driving in th event it falls off more

FDR,
Just an FYI. There is a 2002 Lincoln LS here for sale. V6-5 Speed. Talk about a hot rod Lincoln. Ad says on 392 made that year so I figured it is the Jag setup with different labels.
Fix the exhaust pipe and leave the bracket.

Hmm, took a quick look and couldn't find it. Anyway, it's as much of a hotrod Lincoln as the V6 manual S-type is: not much. IIRC the manuals all came with the Sport suspension (shocks and sway bars) but the rest was the same as the regular V6. Plus, finding parts for the Getrag 221 is abysmal. There were just about 2,000 manual LSes made (<1% of the total) and all in 2000-2002. But it's fun when it works (or so I've heard). Having the Duratec V6 does make it a better candidate for hotrodding than the V8, though
