Already asked the UK forum, figured I would pick your brains as well,
Hello everybody,
since last summer when I took out my seats in order to have new sills welded to my 2003 S-Type I have been having issues with a persistent airbag light that I cannot make go away.
I have removed and reseated the wire plugs under the seat several times now, always with the battery disconnected but still the airbag light stays on, I even took the car to my local indy garage to check if he could clear the code but no dice, he did confirm that it is specifically the driver's side airbag that is causing the airbag light. I did not pull the wires that much when I removed the plugs the first time, could it be a simple connection issue with the plugs and the seat or could there be something wrong with the cables that run beneath the floor carpet?
Anything else I should check with the seat removed, I cannot pass MOT/inspection with the airbag light still on.

Is the code specific to the side airbag in the seat? Just wondering if the actual fault is with the front airbag (in the steering wheel). If so, it may simply be a coincidence the side airbag circuit was disconnected during the recent work.
Could the welding have affected the airbag circuits? I thought it was standard practice to disconnect any airbag wiring before welding. Maybe they did take this precaution but overlooked reconnecting the front airbag.

I disconnected all the plugs under the seat when I pulled the floor carpet before welding the sills, then I connected them again and drove the car to the welder. I have always disconnected the battery before removing or plugging any wires under the seat.
And yes, the garage said it was specifically the driver's side airbag, before I never had any airbag lights come on. I will now try some contact cleaner on all the plugs and then check the wiring.
I have now counted the airbag light flashes and if I did it correctly I got 4+9 flashes which is 49, I didn't find the S-Type specific code for this but I did find it for XKR ( I presume it is the same between Jaguars of the same age) which was "Seat position sensor circuit fault", I am now wondering where under the seat the sensor is located, any help would be much appreciated.
Please see attached the underside of the seat and the airbag light video. I have only unplugged the connectors that are connected to the wire bundle that runs under the carpet.
